Wellington Launches Freebee Senior Ride Program for Residents 55+

The Village of Wellington has officially launched a new transportation option for its senior residents, offering free, on-demand rides through a partnership with Freebee. The program, which began service in May 2024, is available to Wellington residents aged 55 and older, providing safe, accessible, and eco-friendly transportation around the village.

The goal is to make it easier for seniors to get to essential destinations like medical appointments, grocery stores, recreational facilities, and the Wellington Community Center—all without needing to rely on friends, family, or costly ride-hailing services. Rides can be booked using the Ride Freebee mobile app or by calling a dedicated phone line, making it accessible for residents with varying levels of tech comfort.

“This initiative ensures that our senior residents have access to safe and reliable transportation, promoting their independence and quality of life,” said Wellington Mayor Anne Gerwig during a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the program’s launch.

The service is funded by the Village of Wellington and is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vehicles are fully electric, in line with Freebee’s sustainability mission, and the service area is designed to cover key points of interest within the village.

At the launch event, village officials and residents gathered to welcome the new program, with many praising its focus on accessibility, affordability, and quality of life. The town has made senior well-being a top priority, and this service reflects that commitment.

Wellington joins a growing list of Florida communities partnering with Freebee to provide customized, data-driven transportation solutions that meet local needs. For seniors in Wellington, that now means getting around town is just a ride away—at no cost and with zero emissions.
